If you’re going to be in Toronto this coming weekend this sounds like a super event. I’m definitely going to check it out! It’s not too often that craft fairs of this calibre are organized here in Toronto, especially in the middle of the summer, so I’m glad I found out about it a while back via Toronto Craft Alert. See you there!

Babies need Quilts!

I love an excuse to make a baby quilt! And one of my current favourite patterns is Elizabeth Hartman’s baby charm squares quilt. Last weekend I finished this quilt for my favourite yoga teacher, dear Catherine. She knows that she’s having a baby girl, a sweet sister for dear little Russell. So, I got to play with pinks! If you know me, you know I have two amazing sons, so I never got the chance to play with pinks while they were growing up!
Of course, true to form, in pulling fabrics from my stash, my theme and creative inspiration was nature. I’ve also got all four seasons represented – it’s hard to see but the sashing strips are snow-laden evergreen trees! Hence the title: Welcome to the Seasons of your Life.
For the backing, I used a second Wendy Slotboom fabric (Frolic Animal Collage) sandwiched between a lush forest fabric. I deliberated for some time over what to use for the binding, but I am really pleased with the brown tone-on-tone floral (a fabric not included in the top). I quilted the top with variegated thread and used a neutral thread in the bobbin.
Now I am trying to settle on what my next project will be! I already whipped up a new purple shoulder bag yesterday, and I am seriously thinking about a Monarch butterfly applique project. I’ll blog my decision soon!
